Researchers, technology developers, industry, regulatory authorities, non-government organizations, and other stakeholders will take advantage of this unique opportunity to share information and experiences and engage in open and meaningful dialogue on cutting-edge biosafety research, risk analysis, policy, regulation, and communication.

The symposium is a physical/in-person meeting!

Welcome

Welcome to the official website for the 16th Symposium of the International Society for Biosafety Research (ISBR). The symposium will be proudly hosted from 30 April  to 4 May 2023 at the Union Station Hotel, St Louis, Missouri, USA, a city that is home to extensive biotechnology research, industry, and international outreach activity.

This symposium provides a vital forum for key players in the fields of biotechnology and biosafety to come together to share knowledge, discuss challenges and explore opportunities. It comes at a time when biotechnology has so emphatically demonstrated the outstanding contribution it makes to society by providing important tools to help overcome the pandemic.

The 16th ISBR Symposium will build on the outcomes of successful symposia (originally called ISBGMO) previously hosted in Germany, Canada, China, France, Korea, New Zealand, Argentina, USA, South Africa, Mexico, and Spain. In striving to ensure that ISBR’s activities keep pace with new technological developments, the symposium will bring people together from around the world to promote best-practise science and regulation in sustainable biotechnology application and biosafety. Researchers, technology developers, industry, regulatory authorities, non-government organizations, and other stakeholders will take advantage of this unique opportunity to share information and experiences and engage in open and meaningful dialogue on cutting-edge biosafety research, risk analysis, policy, regulation, and communication.

In keeping with ISBR’s standing as the leading international scientific society promoting the practise and application of good science in sustainable biotechnology and environmental risk analysis, the theme for the 16th ISBR Symposium will be Advancing science in support of sustainable bio-innovation. Occurring at a time when the importance of sustainable biotechnology is so clearly evident, and against a background of rapid advances in the development and application of new technologies, the symposium will explore this theme through an extensive series of plenary, parallel, Pecha Kucha, and poster sessions, together with topic-focussed workshops.

The symposium program will also include time for informal discussions and social interactions, together with options for leisure activities around St Louis. As with previous symposia, ISBR will support the publication of a special peer-reviewed compilation of papers based on presentations at the symposium. An exciting program of eminent keynote and plenary speakers is being developed by the Symposium Program Committee, and further details will be shared in the near future, along with invitations to participate in sessions and submit abstracts for consideration.

Please keep a watch for our further communications on the symposium and don’t hesitate to email us at admin@isbr.info if you have any questions or suggestions. It will be the second time that the ISBGMO has been hosted in St Louis and we estimate that approximately 500 delegates will attend from around the world. We look forward to welcoming you to St Louis in April 2023. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to mark the dates in your diary!

Dr Joe Smith ISBR President
